Cancelled!!!

Goodbye “Made in Jersey”,“Animal Practice”,”The Mob Doctor” and “Emily Owens MD”. You are rotting in the wasteland that is, Cancelled TV Shows.

A few blogs post back I mentioned some of the worst movies of all time.

I was wondering what makes a TV show one of the worst of all time.

I don’t know.

And I don’t want to find that out because frankly my dear I don’t give a damn.

My focus is on cancelled TV shows. Most shows get cancelled due to poor rating, not because they are necessarily bad. Some are ahead of its time (firefly). It doesn’t mean that it was horrible, but, yeah, some are.

Others are bad and get cancelled. Yet there are some shows on now that should never have made it on the air, but oh well, whatever the TV gods want.

Depending on their ratings, some shows get cancelled a hand full of episode into the season, having the remaining unaired episodes burn off at a later time or online. Others have their initial episode order broadcast, but never renewed afterwards.

But there is an exclusive club that few shows can prestigiously claim membership in. And that is a show that gets cancelled after just one episode. Yes that happens. What!?

This category can be broken down into two sub categories.

One: cancelled after airing a single episode.

Two: cancelled after airing two back to back episodes on the same night.

Either way, I clump them together because they got cancelled after their initial airing. (Potatoe Potato).

The most current show that got cancelled would be ABC’s “Emily’s Reasons Why Not”. This show was heavily promoted by ABC, basically being the “Sex and the City” for broadcast networks. It got cancelled after the first episode.

Other show were

Lawless (FOX 1997)

Osborne reloaded FOX 2009(Really? Did we need this?)

Rosie Live. (NBC 2008)

The following shows were cancelled after air two back to back episodes.

The Hasselhoffs (remember this one)

Viva Laughlin

Anchorwoman (Fox 2002).

If you want to talk about exclusivity, only the rare of rare members then that would belong to “cancelled before your first episode finishes airing”. What! Yup Yup it has happened on a couple of rare occasion. Talk about exclusivity. They must have jackets or something.

In the early 1990′s there was a show that went off the air and cancelled while it was being broadcasted. That would be “Australia’s Naughtiest Home videos”. By the title you can see why it got thrown down under. In 1969 a show on ABC called “Turn On” was cancelled after its first commercial break, being deemed as offensive due to sexual humor. (Sexual humor? That belongs on “Australia’s Naughtiest Home Videos”)

On another note, there are shows that are touted as the next “Lost” or the next big thing only to arrive with a bang and end with a whimper.

Flash-forward (ABC)

The Event (NBC)

Rubicon

Undercover (a Mr. and Mrs. Smith rip off)

Dollhouse

Freak and Geeks

Firefly.

The later three shows had a good run, some returning for a second season, but poor rating sank these shows. Regardless they have their own followings, even today.

There you have it readers, these are some of the TV shows that have been cancelled at various stages of broadcast.

So let me know if you watched any of these TV shows, do you even remember any of them. What show is on now that you can’t believe lasted as long as it has? Let me know on the comments. Don’t forget to like, rate, and subscribe.

Until next time citizens
