Tom Cruise scores one of his best numbers of his career. Oblivion from Universal debuted with $38.1 million over the weekend. This is Tom Cruise’s best opening since 2006. War of the Worlds 2005 opening of $64.8 million was the biggest of his career, it was Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol‘s $47.1 million debut in 2006 that showed the box office draw of Tom Cruise.
The Jackie Robinson biopic 42 fell to second place with $18 Million. The Box Office gross was down compared to last year when Think Like a Man opened in first place with $33.6 Million.
