Forbes recently released a list of the Top 10 highest paid actors for the period of June 2012-June 2013. The list took into account the earnings for that time period, but didn’t exude deductions, (Taxes, Agent fees, ETC). In a shock to no one, Robert Downy Jr. came in at number one, riding high movies, “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3”.
Below you would find a list of the 10 top paid actors for 2013.
1. Robert Downey Jr.
Downey had the advantage of having two movies that grossed over 1 billion worldwide debut within the year. There is no doubt that he would reappear on the list next year, once “The Avengers” sequel starts filming.
There is no doubt that Tatum had a good year. He found success with “21 Jump Street” and “Magic Mike.” It was the latter that catapulted Tatum to number 2. Having co-financed the film “Magic Mike”, he began raking in the cash when the film found success.
Tatum has several projects in the works, including the sequel, “22 Jump Street”, which should place him back on the list next year.
3. Hugh Jackman
Jackson has benefited from portraying Wolverine from the X Men Franchise. The sequel to the stand alone spin off debuts later this month. He also starred in the movie adaption of “Les Miserables”, which made $438 million. Combined with his performances on Broadway it landed him at # 3 on the list.
4. Mark Wahlberg
“Ted” was a surprise hit in 2012, which gave Wahlberg his first blockbuster. He also starred in “Broken City” and “Pain & Gain“. He recently signed on to “Transformers 4”.
5. Dwayne Johnson
The Rock has a great year at the box office. The former wrestler opened 4 movies, “Snitch”, “G.I Joe Retaliation”, “Pain & Gain”, and “Fast & Furious 6“. Johnson can be seen playing Hercules in 2014’s “Hercules: The Thracian Wars“.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio is a huge box office draw, but has yet been able to win an Oscar for his performances. He was in”Django Unchained” grossing $423 WW and “The Great Gatsby.” The latter was a tough sell but has grossed $326 WW.
7. Adam Sandler
After a string of flops, Sandler scored big, with “Hotel Transylvania”, his biggest grossing movie to date, and “Grown Ups 2”
8. Tom Cruise
Cruise’s movies might be losing its draw in the U.S, but he is still a huge draw overseas. Cruies released “Jack Reacher” and “Oblivion” that found modest success in the U.S, but were hits overseas.
Due to Washington taking a pay cut and receiving a portion of the profits at the back end, he was able to land at # 9, with the success of the film, “Flight”.
10. Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson released “Taken 2” and it grossed $376 WW. That’s it. He is awesome and made the Top 10.
Notably absent from the list is Johnny Depp. During the qualifying period, he had one film, the under performing “Dark Shadows.” Will Smith is also absent, also having only one movie “After Earth.
Also missing is Ben Stiller and Baron Sasha Cohen, but that is due to neither of them starring in a movies the past year.
The Top 10 actors earned a combined $464 million, make me question my career decision.
Until next time
