2016 is well underway and Hollywood has kept the movie making machine churning.
2016 has a plethora of highly anticipated movies, From X-Men: Apocalypse to Batman Vs Superman.
As January’s entries burn off, February looks promising with releases of two major productions.
Historically, January has always been a slow month in cinema. Like September, Hollywood usually dumps its less promising projects during the month after the holidays.
This doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been successes during this month. Last year, “American Sniper” opened to est. 90 million. The top three best opening films ever were released within the last three years, with 7 of the top 10 opening in the same time period.
This year’s crop of films made an estimated 249 million at the box office since their respective debuts in January. Currently, the most successful film is “Ride Along 2” while the least is Lionsgate “Norm of the North”
February sees the release of the long in the works film, “Deadpool”, the sequel “Zoolander 2” and the big budget “Gods of Egypt”. Along with other crops of films, studios hope to cash in on February.
Last year, Hollywood saw three films gross over 100 million, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”, and “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”
